About Chris Petersen

Maybe You Don’t Need More Talent.

Maybe you need to learn how to access the talent you’ve already built.

Coach Chris Petersen

I was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1992.

Back then, I thought getting better was pretty straightforward. Work harder. Get stronger. Take more reps. Fix the mechanics.

So I did.

I went on to play professional baseball, including time in the Major Leagues with the Colorado Rockies organization.

And then I spent the next 30+ years coaching athletes.

But somewhere along the way, I started noticing something I couldn’t ignore.

Sometimes talent wasn’t the problem.

I’d watch an athlete absolutely crush it in practice, then tighten up when the game started.

I’d see a kid with more talent than almost anyone on the field make one mistake, and mentally disappear for the next three innings.

I’d have athletes come to me wanting to fix their swing, when the swing wasn’t really what was getting in their way.

And I understood it.

Because when you’ve put everything into your sport, the pressure can get LOUD.

Don’t screw this up.

What if I fail?

What is Coach thinking?

What if I don’t make the team?

What if I’m not as good as everyone thinks I am?

Eventually, I became fascinated with that space between the athlete you KNOW you are and the athlete you’re able to access when it counts.

That’s what led me deeper into mental performance coaching.

And today, it’s some of my favorite work to do.

Because I don’t believe most competitive athletes need someone telling them to “BE CONFIDENT!” 😄

I want to help you figure out what’s getting in the way when the pressure rises, so you can stop fighting yourself & start finding out how good you could actually become.

Because maybe you don’t need more talent.

Maybe you need to learn how to access the talent you’ve already built.

Perform When It Counts

That’s why I created Perform When It Counts, my private 90-day performance coaching experience for competitive athletes.

If you’re sitting there thinking:

“I KNOW I’m better than I’m showing.”

Good.

There’s probably another level in you.

Let’s go find it.
